As a music enthusiast, casual DJ, and avid festival goer, I thoroughly enjoy scanning through and finding new music/artists that I haven't heard of before and playing them for others. The top 100 DJ’s are amazing at what they do, but sometimes I want something a little different or funkier than what I can find in the mainstream of the industry. This is why I have decided to dedicate a weekly article to spotlighting a specific artist that you may have not heard of before. In Spotlight Wednesday 001 I have decided to feature an up and coming producer/entrepreneur Ben Pearce. Currently 23 years old, Ben was born in Manchester, United Kingdom. His latest EP What Might I Do, went #1 on the Deep House Charts shortly after being released and for good reason. Ben is producing some of the funkiest, sexy, and deep house I have heard in some time. You can listen to this in the bedroom, on the dance floor, at work, or even when you are grooving around the house cleaning. Also most of his music is available for free download on Soundcloud which is always nice, including an hour long mix titled ‘Sextape 002’ with full tracklist (found at the end of article). I have saved chatting about my favorite song of his for last, which happens to be a remix of C O O L by Le Youth. This track has a great 90’s disco/R&B/funky vibe to it, with the dance floor deep house sounds of today. Not only is Mr. Pearce a producer/DJ but he is also the Label Owner of Purp and Soul Records. This label includes the following artists: Real Conoisseur, Harry Wolfman, Mark Wells, Resketch, Jouhl, Dan Styles, 2nd Sun, Memo Insua, and LG. Less than two weeks ago on July 8th, 2013 Ben Pearce and Real Conoisseur released a joint EP titled Just Enough/Nobody’s Fool. following festivals coming up: Farr Festival in Great Britain, Dour 2013 in Belgium, Secret Garden Party 2013 in Great Britain, Lowlands 2013 in Netherlands, Pukkelpop 2013 in Belgium, and Bestival in Great Britain, as well as a few random dates in Ibiza. As of right now there are no events/gigs shown on his label’s website or his Facebook page in the United States but I would recommend all of you reach out to your local venues and get him to come through in an intimate environment before he blows up onto the scene!
