San Francisco’s bass enthusiasts, K Theory, have taken on Lana Del Rey’s latest hit single “West Coast,” providing an outstanding genre-fusing rendition that went live on their official Soundcloud yesterday.
The trio put extra emphasis on the darkness of Lana’s sullen original vocals by including elements of deep, heavy percussion and a grimy guitar riff that takes this single to another level of lamentation. As if the lyrics alone weren't enough to toy with your heart, K Theory took it even further by changing up the tempo throughout the track, making for an up and down rhythm that parallels the rollercoaster-like emotions buried within the meaning of the song.
K Theory is made up of Malcolm Anthony, Dylan Lewman and Dustin Musser. Each have their own respective roles, working everything from vocals and conducting, to sampling and instrumentals. The three together form a force to be reckoned with in the realm of bass music and the EDM community. They have performed at many of the world’s largest festivals (including an incredible set at Coachella's The Do LaB) and have a number of releases on big name labels, including their own K Theory music label.
