LAXX Brings Some Serious Heat With Latest EP
It’s been quite a busy year for bass producer and DJ LAXX, who has been stepping up on every occasion so far. With dubstep titan SKisM championing his sounds and signing him to Never Say Die last year, it has been interesting to watch this UK artist flourish.
He debuted on the NSD label with “Step One”; which was a collection of four tracks, with his title track getting regular plays on Flux Pavilion’s US tour. Having swiftly followed up the release with “Step Two” and “Step Free” (four cost-free downloads), he’s back on the scene armed with “Step Three.”
The EP, whilst slightly starting to stretch the original theme somewhat, is still a series of refreshingly unique tracks. Although the EP’s namesake track is a ramped up version of earlier editions, tunes like “Semi Auto” are examples of LAXX’s sheer power of creation. Searing intensity is reached via highly innovative shards and cuts of bass – this track is undoubtedly one that is going to get a rinsing on the live circuit.
Hamilton is on hand to provide a bit of D&B fire with a substantial remix, as “The Invisible Invaders” ensures that trademark LAXX urgency, through wailing sirens and warping vocal shreds.
It’s probably time LAXX moved onto a new idea for his next release, but if he concludes his “Step” sequence with this EP, he will have completed it in serious style.
