This Week in Trance 006
When David Guetta stripped Armin of his crown last year in DJ Mag’s Top 100 poll, many of us were wondering if we were finally witnessing the demise of trance. But last Friday’s announcement that AvB has once again claimed the top spot is proof that, in so many ways, trance lives on. Armin has now won the #1 title FIVE TIMES – more than any other DJ before him. He’s been faithful to his roots as a trance DJ and producer and has done a tremendous job over the years exposing the world to the music he loves. The most impressive part is that his passion for the music has created an almost religious following among his fans that spans across continents, countries, and cultures. Without a doubt, he will go down as one of the most important people in the history of electronic dance music. Welcome back, Armin…
In Armin’s honor, I wanted to bring back a HUGE REMIX from earlier this year that packs a serious punch. If you haven’t heard Armin’s remix of Kristy’s “Twilight,” you are in for a serious treat. Definitely my favorite club track from Armin this year.

Besides the fact that Armin reclaimed his crown this week, we have some ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE new music to share with you. The first track this week is pure bliss. This new remix by Lemon & Einar K of Andy Moor’s Trespass is breathtaking. It has an old school instrumental trance feel that is complemented perfectly by the smooth vocals of Sue McLaren. This track is definitely a keeper.

One of my favorite trance producers of all time, Alex M.O.R.P.H., released a beautiful new mix this week. This is one of those tracks that you really have to sit down and listen to really appreciate. The melodic composition isn’t really comparable to anything I’ve heard in recent times other than some of Andy Blueman’s famous orchestral mixes.

Orjan Nilsen has captured the attention of trance fans across the world over the past two years. He continues to push the creative envelope in the studio and his new two track EP released this past week proves just that. I really enjoy the first track “Baruna” and I wanted to make sure I shared it with all of you – the melody is pure energy. Check it out!

Also this week we have an awesome new progressive track from Zach Roth on Enhanced’s Colorize label. I love the groovy, funky feel to this track and I have my friends, Kayla and Hannah, to thank for the introduction. Zach cerainly has a bright future if he keeps making tracks of this caliber. Released just yesterday on Beatport.

The last track this week is borderline progressive house. I heard it earlier this week after I saw Morgan Page post it on his Facebook page and I’ve been listening to it every since. The bassline is pure filth and the melody is simple but well designed. Morgan Page is definitely one of the most well-rounded producers of our generation.
