Top Tracks from A State of Trance 2013
A State of Trance 2013, the ten year anniversary edition, mixed and compiled by no one other than Armin van Buuren. I don’t know where to start with this compilation. A State of Trance 2013 was released on Valentine’s Day (February 14), but I didn’t listen to it for the first week of its release. It now completely dominates my daily trance intake. Being in “a state of trance,” the term diehard trance family members routinely live by, doesn’t even come close to describing how I feel about this compilation. I could easily define it as “absolutely brilliant”, as I tweeted on Twitter, but I insist that description is too generic to get my true feelings across.
A State of Trance 2013 explodes with 33 exclusive tracks and remixes split between 2 discs, “On The Beach” and “In The Club.” These tracks represent “the sound of 2013,” as defined by Armin. I have given a careful, thorough listen to each track with the best depths of my heart. It would take me forever to describe each track. Instead, I’m going to share my “top tracks” from A State of Trance 2013.
Omnia – The Light
Omnia is one of my favorite fast rising progressive trance producers. His 2012 smash hit, ‘The Fusion’ (ft. IRA), and ‘Infina’ (from Armin’s Universal Religion Chapter 6), are two of my turn to tracks when I just want to kick back and relax with some epic trance. ‘The Light’ will end up on that playlist as well shortly. There’s no better feeling than closing your eyes and taking off on a brief journey with melodies that help you put life into perspective. That’s what ‘The Light’ does for me, and I hope you can experience something worthwhile when you press play.
VillaNaranjos – Jalon
I’m not familiar with the 18-year-old VillaNaranjos, but I do know one thing: ‘Jalon’ is spicy. The guitar playing in the beginning immediately sets the tone for a mysterious love story that would pinnacle at the end. Armin said he felt like he was on a beach while listening to this track. I imagine it would go something like this: the sun is twinkling in the ocean, the waves are beautifully crashing, and there’s a lady in a dress. We would hold hands as the sun sets. This is easily the most romantic track on compilation.
Solarstone & Clare Stagg – Jewel (Pure Mix)
Solarstone (Rich Mowatt) has recently embarked on a “Pure Trance” mission. ‘Jewel’ (Pure Mix) should single-handedly define the special message that Rich has for trance fans around the world. There isn’t much I have to say about ‘Jewel’ (Pure Mix) because it speaks for itself. Clare Stagg’s voice meshes perfectly with the signature sound of a Solarstone pure remix. So many people are already calling this the track of the year.
Armin van Buuren presents Gaia – Humming The Lights
Armin’s moniker Gaia has done it again. With Gaia, Armin honors his love for trance music. ‘Humming The Lights‘ seeks to explore the darkest depths of uplifting trance and explain how someone could love something so beautiful. Armin named this track ‘Humming The Lights’ after a live show in New York. He tells his light operator that he’s done a good job with the lights. The light operator replies to him by saying, “…well you know, its great to have cool lights and all…but the crowd doesn’t go home ‘humming the lights!”
Rank 1 vs M.I.K.E. – Elements Of Nature
If you are well-versed on the history of trance music, when you learn that Rank 1 and M.I.K.E. are collaborating for a track, you know a bomb is ready to detonate at any second. There is just so much energetic tension from the beginning of ‘Elements of Nature’. ‘Elements of Nature’ has one of the most inspiring melodies I’ve heard in a long time, and lives up to its titanesque hype.
So, those are my “top tracks” from A State of Trance 2013. I sincerely hope you enjoy these tracks as much as I do. I strongly encourage you to comment with your “top tracks”!!!
