Why Seeing Trance Live Will Change Your Life

Why Seeing Trance Live Will Change Your Life

Despite having a cult of dedicated fans and enormous success in the 90s and early 2000s, trance today is now considered one of the more “underground” genres of EDM. Why is that? Because it appears the public opinion has changed in favor of the slower tempos and dramatic drops of electro/progressive house or the heavy, bassy “womp” sound of dubstep. Trance lacks both of those elements; with faster tempos, breakdowns instead of build-ups, lack of drop, and an overall longer song length, trance is meant to take its listeners on a longer listening journey as opposed to giving them instant satisfaction. Nowadays, if people can even distinguish trance from other genres, most say it is “too long,” “repetitive and annoying,” or even just plain “boring.”

We super trance fans here at Only The Beat are here to change those negative preconceived notions of trance and open your mind to our beloved genre of music. How are we going to do that? Simple; everyone knows that seeing is believing, so we’re going to convince you to see trance live!  Peep the reasons below to see how attending a trance set or event can change your life.

Reason #1: Trance crowds have the best vibes

trance
Perhaps some of you have heard of the well-known “Group Therapy” movement by legendary DJs Above & Beyond. People always come away feeling happy and connected with each other, and there have been nothing but rave reviews about each show. Well, guess what genre “Group Therapy” is? Yup, it’s trance! If there is any one thing that embodies PLUR (Peace, Love, Unity, Respect) in every sense, it is most definitely the crowd and its vibes at the trance stage or show. At every trance event you may hit up you’re almost guaranteed a crowd full of joyous people who watch each others’ backs, give each other room to dance to their heart’s content (instead of trying to squish up in the front), and who want to interact and make friends with their fellow audience members. By the end of your time spent seeing trance live, you’re left with a bunch of new friends, a giant grin on your face, and a sense of satisfaction that your experience was as PLUR as it could be.

Reason #2: The music is a whole new level of awesome live

trance
While some of us may have fallen in love with trance at the start before hearing it live, this is not the case for a lot of trance fans. The lower quality speakers just don’t do it justice! That’s why it is imperative to give live trance a chance; when you’re in a room with good acoustics and a great speaker system pounding out the rhythmic beats of trance, you can’t help but dance to it. The bass reverberates through your body as the melody pierces your ears, creating a truly entrancing experience. Paired with cool visuals and a friendly crowd, the music becomes that much better. Several trance fans we have talked to admit that it was after seeing a trance set live for the first time that they became hardcore trance fans and began listening to it recreationally.

Reason #3: The DJs are very attentive and compassionate to their fans

trance
Now we’re not saying that DJs in other genres aren’t compassionate or attentive to their fans (look at Kaskade, for example), but as a whole trance DJs are known for their kind attitudes. Armin Van Buuren has been seen jamming it out with the royals in the Netherlands and exposing his emotions to his fans at Tomorrowland by crying on stage. Above & Beyond always pick fans to “push the button” and kick off “Sun & Moon” at their shows as well as their constant communication with the audience via messages on the visual screen. Orjan Nilsen likes to make his fans laugh by making funny dance moves on stage. Not to mention, many trance DJs respond to greater amounts of fans through social media due to smaller amounts of people. Nothing is more gratifying than getting a response from your favorite DJ! Finally, in general, those who produce trance tend to use more uplifting melodies and lyrics in their songs, taking relatable life events and turning them into song form so their fans can all share the experience together. Pretty spiritual, ‘ey?

Reason #4: The Trance Family is very connected and always looking for new members

trance
The final aspect of trance that makes it awesome is the Trance Family. As mentioned above, the Trance Family is what the dedicated cult of trance fans calls itself. This dedication ties into our earlier point about the crowds being so great. Most members of the trance family agree that somehow the music connects us on a greater plane, and that fellow trance family members understand each other on a greater level than people who tend to prefer other types of EDM. We are all experiencing this magnificent show together and creating an unbreakable bond! The trance family is always eager to accept new members with open arms as well; once someone decides that they like trance, they are bound to receive tons of playlists from other trance fans who love to share their music and their souls with each other. So if you like going to raves to experience connection, there is no better place to do it than at a live trance show or set!
