DJs and Costumes: What Do You Think?
What do DJs that wear costumes bring to the experience of a show? After having the opportunity to see the elusive Bear Grillz, for some reason, this is the one question that stuck in my head. Of course plenty of us all have our favorite DJs that we want to go out and see spin, but what happens when you have no idea who the DJ actually is? (Bear Grillz, this is a huge nod to you: WHO ARE YOU?!)
I guess I had never really sat down and thought about it because we already know the identity of many DJs that wear costumes. Take, for example, deadmau5, Cazzette, or Daft Punk. When that iconic mau5-head, those fantastic cassette masks, or the robot masks get put on, it definitely changes the experience of being at that show. And the DJs look pretty stinking cool with them on! What does it do for YOU though? Does it enhance your experience? Is it annoying? We here at Only The Beat think it is pretty cool (just look at how sexy those massive rectangles are!).
Back to the original question though, what happens when you have no idea who is even taking you on the amazing musical journey that you are witnessing? The whole time I was at Bear Grillz the only thing I could think was “Who the heck are you?!” Having that extra sense of mystery, personally, spices the show up for me. Unfortunately, we never did find out who Bear Grillz was, but wow did he know how to put on a show!
So what do you think? What do DJ costumes do for your event experience? Should more DJs start wearing costumes, or should they just stop completely? Let us know what you think in the comments below, and whatever your opinion, don’t forgot to dance on!
