The Song of Summer 2014 is…

As the 2014 summer season winds down, we take a look back at the songs that captivated us these past few months and see what tracks really stood out from the crowd (and weren’t just the fad of the week.) There were countless releases from many talented artists who all deserve so much credit for their musicality and for giving the world such amazing tracks. However, there can only be one song of summer 2014.

The rules for becoming the song of summer 2014 are very simple:

*The song must have been officially released between May and September 2014.

*The song can be an original mix or a remix.

After looking back over the list of all of the amazing music that was released this summer, a short list of groundbreaking songs emerged. All of these songs deserve the award but there can only be one, and we think that song is…

Kanye West: Bound 2 (The Rooftop Boys Remix)

Gaining widespread attention from lovers of every genre of electronic music, The Rooftop Boys’ remix of Kanye West’s “Bound 2” showed off the raw talent of the up and coming duo in their first release. While this song did not blow up the EDM circuit and become overplayed at every main stage, The Rooftop Boys did secure their spot in electronic music and showed that they truly deserve your time and attention.

Following up the release of their “Bound 2″ remix, the duo dropped a remix of David Guetta & Showtek’s “Bad” that found similar success. It is because of “Bound 2” that I eagerly await for more releases from The Rooftop Boys. I can only hope we don’t have to wait until next summer to get another track.

Honorable Mentions

It would be disrespectful of me to not even mention the other songs that fought for that top spot and nearly won. So here are your four runners up in no particular order.

Porter Robinson – Sad Machine

Lorde – Tennis Court (Flume Remix)

Slow Magic – Girls

Bassnectar – Don’t Hate The 808

From LA to Seattle, the West Coast has always been my home and I take great pride in the music scene we have here. Bass music is my first love, but in reality I love and appreciate all types of music...besides country. Let the music talk. You just have to be ready to listen.
