Disclaimer: Paris Hilton did not bomb another set.
In fact, she is a great entrepreneur. The fact that she is able to make a ton of money doing something she's undoubtedly sub-par (being nice) at (Djing), is nothing short of amazing. She hosts her own night in Ibiza and is actually one of the most famous DJ’s in the world today.
Let that sink in for a second...
Paris Hilton is one of the most famous DJ’s in the world.
That last sentence may be a tough pill to swallow, but it is nevertheless true. The point of this article was not to trick you in a malicious way; rather it was a way I thought would reach the most amount of people and possibly change people’s perspectives on the Electronic Dance Music scene.
Everyday my newsfeed is populated with very biased, baseless, emotionally irritating and half assed articles with titles such as “Why Trance is Dying”, “Why Big Room house is dead”, “Calvin Harris buys a new house” etc… These articles dominate the “EDM” social media sphere and they are destroying the very fabric of which this scene was established on. These articles elicit such emotional responses out of its readers that they cause arguments and pure hatred between people. I have personally seen people say some of the most vial and disgusting shit to each other because of a fucking article title.
So why write this?
1) The amount of hate between people over very “trivial” articles has got to stop.
It’s very easy to go on a rant and “yell” at people on social media because you do not have to worry about saying something to there face (god knows I’m not perfect and have done that several times). However, I implore you to look for new artists, tracks and things that will actually add some meaning or enjoyment to your life rather than click on the next “Hardwell doesn’t deserve the number 1 DJ spot” article”. (Update: I wrote this article before articles like this actually came out)
2. It’s no longer purely about the music.
Electronic Dance Music has become a fad driven machine. So many smaller artists and individuals working so hard in this scene are getting over shadowed by “Deadmau5 tweets that say we should all go to hell again”. The Chainsmokers
had to come out with a song called “Selfie” in order to get the recognition they so rightly deserved months before that. It’s important to give the smaller artists a shot and with the way the scene has become it’s a “celebrity” driven entity now and we need to move away from that.
3. People believe the words they read in these sensationalist articles.
These articles are written in a way that turns assumptions into facts and that is very dangerous. Articles written in this way can destroy so much that people have worked toward. We really need to do our due diligence and make sure not to feed into the machine that is turning out these articles
I don’t know if this piece will make much of a difference, but I could no longer sit on the sidelines and do nothing while the scene I love starts going to shit. If you happen to feel the same way, take a stand with me and share this article .
