What do music lovers do when they're really feeling a track? Turn it up, of course. A huge reason why Drum and Bass
music has become as popular as it is today, is because you can feel the music moving your body, enhancing the listening experience.
Another way to hear and actually feel
the music—go to huge music festival with a massive sound system (Electric Daisy Carnival
, Ultra Music Festival
and many more). When we attend these festivals with outrageous sound systems, we unintentionally put our ears through a lot of abuse; which can lead to hearing damage and possibly loss. I’m sure you can remember a time leaving a club or festival stage with your ears were ringing.... until even, the next morning. This is a perfect example of Noise-Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL)
. According to the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders:
"NIHL can be immediate or it can take a long time to be noticeable. It can be temporary or permanent, and it can affect one ear or both ears. Even if you can’t tell that you are damaging your hearing, you could have trouble hearing in the future, such as not being able to understand other people when they talk, especially on the phone or in a noisy room. Regardless of how it might affect you, one thing is certain: noise-induced hearing loss is something you can prevent." - National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders
Just in the United States alone, more than six million people from the ages of 18-44 experience hearing loss. Being that most of us Electronic Dance Music lovers spend our weekends at clubs or other events where the music is blaring, we really need to protect our ears.
For a while I had been searching for a earplug that actually worked well, after searching for a while I had came across DUBS. When I looked at their website I was very intrigued.
"The DUBS use Dynamic Attenuation, an intricate mechanical process that filters sound. While traditional earplugs distort and muffle, our engineers developed a proprietary combination of high and low pass filters that allow the DUBS to reduce volume while preserving the proper balance and clarity of the audio you hear." - DUBS
When I had heard that, I knew I had to try a pair (and for $25.00 I couldn't pass it up). I have experienced DUBS at venues like Avalon Hollywood, The El Rey Theater, Club Nokia and The Shrine Expo Hall. I was very impressed with how they didn't block out the sound, they made it even better. They aren't like those foam ear plugs that come in neon colors, they are made to last. You could say DUBS are the love of my life.
"The DUBS have been constructed with premium materials - including high strength plastics, stainless steel, polymer foams and silicones - to create a durable product that can be worn over and over, every day." - DUBS
When I first saw DUBS I didn't even think they we ear plugs, I thought they were earbuds because of the wonderful design. Normal ear plugs you see aren't usually this sleek and fasionable.
Even producers like Zedd
and Steve Angello
have suffered from hearing loss.
You might be asking yourself, why DUBS
? Well they have an answer for you...
"We are currently subjected to more noise in our daily lives than ever before. Noise pollution has doubled in the last 10 years and Noise Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL) has become the third most common medical condition in America. More than 48 million Americans experience hearing loss, and 6 out of 10 of us are below retirement age." - DUBS
"The DUBS help to protect against hearing loss by tuning the world to a responsible level, without muting sounds or removing you from your environment." - DUBS
