The Capital of EDM
Could Washington, DC become the Capital of EDM?
When you think about the epicenter of electronic dance music, cities like Ibiza, Las Vegas, Miami, New York, and Chicago come to mind as top contenders. However, another city, Washington DC is quickly becoming a major player in the EDM scene where you can see top DJs spin weekday and weekend. Club Glow and Panorama Productions have been bringing the top DJs to the US Capital for several years feeding the DC Nightlife scene and fueling the EDM movement.
DC has three major venues where you can see top DJs perform that include the Ultrabar, the internationally ranked (#19 DJ Magazine Top 100 Clubs in 2014) Echostage, and the newest club of the trio, Soundcheck. On a single given week in September artists like Party Favor, Moti, Paul Ritch Live, Pete Tong, Armin Van Buuren, Oliver Heldens and Cazzette can be seen between the three venues. Club Glow also puts together festivals like the Moonrise Festival, Safe In Sound Festival, Life in Color Tour to further add to the entertainment available in the Maryland, Virginia, and DC area.
Echostage, Ultrabar, and Soundcheck make DC an EDM Hub
Echostage is the largest concert venue in DC that is over 30,000 square feet that opened up in September of 2012. To mark the three year anniversary of the opening of Echostage, the owners Antonis Karagounis and Pete Kalamoutsos are hosting a two-day celebration called Echoversary on Friday September 18th, 2015 with Tchami and Don Diablo and Saturday September 19th, 2015 with Bingo Players and Henry Fong performing. Two day passes are available to celebrate the anniversary for $50. Echostage is constantly bringing top talent to DC and routinely upgrades and updates the venue making the overall experience better. It would not be surprising to see Echostage climb further up the charts of DJ Magazine Top 100 Clubs in the future.
The newest addition to the DC EDM family, Soundcheck is the place to go during the week or on a Sunday if you want to see a quality show. A full review of Soundcheck is forthcoming, but the Metro accessible venue already has the advantage of a prime location in the heart of downtown DC. Echostage, Ultrabar, and Soundcheck together are making DC a prominent location in the EDM world and is great for DC natives and travelers alike. With east coast clubs in locations like Atlantic City struggling, the trio of venues in DC has the potential to become a hub for EDM enthusiasts in the Northeast. Who knows maybe a Member of Congress will join in on the next mosh pit?
