2015 Comes To Close With Monstercat’s 025 Threshold

With 2015 just about in the books, Monstercat releases their 25th compilation album, Threshold. Composed of 28 tracks, Threshold not looks only at the past, but also into the future, as it contains 9 unreleased tracks that are sure to start 2016 off with a bang. I could go through this album track by track, but that would take forever to read, so I’ve highlighted your “must-hear” tracks below.

Monstercat – 025 Threshold

Float Away – Grabbitz

Grabbitz has been on fire in 2015 and with his latest album Better With Time, Nick Chiari steps his game up to another level. “Float Away” will make you do exactly that. Staccato synthesizers, vocals sung by Grabbitz himself, and a moving melody make this an iconic track for Monstercat.

Direct – Lark

One of the 9 unreleased tracks on Threshold is Direct’s “Lark.” A haunting piano melody underscored by smooth bass and technical drums make this perfect for the slow, cold nights in the dark this winter. Chill sounds always gives me chills, which definitely is why it’s on my must hear track list.

Laszlo – Home feat. Richard Caddock

Laszlo jumped out at me with his Closer EP this year, creating an immensely repeatable piece of work. If you haven’t yet, check out the EP for an idea of his style of music. Or you can listen to his newest track “Home” with Richard Caddock. In what seems like a cross between Porter Robinson’s 8-bit style from Worlds and progressive house, “Home” is wildly infectious and has me wanting to hear it out the main stage speakers while getting blasted with confetti. Get ready to jump around in this one.

Varien & Mr FijiWiji – We Are the Lights

I may have an unhealthy obsession with this song. It might be because of the sexy saxophone or the smooth transitions throughout the entire track or my love for both Varien and Mr FijiWiji. Whatever it is, I can’t get enough of this song and I doubt you will either if you give it a listen.

Haywyre – Endlessly

One of the quickest rising stars of Monstercat is Haywyre. He has had a stellar 2015, opening up for Mat Zo last winter, creating live music videos of his “Smooth Criminal” remix and original “Insight,” along with hosting his own AMA on Twitch, where he premiered “Endlessly” at the end of the stream. Haywyre is a perfect example of where Monstercat is going in 2016: bigger and better. With a tour and a new album, Haywyre exemplifies everything that Monstercat stands for.

While these may be my 5 favorite tracks from 025 Threshold, the album is filled with stellar tracks from all of their artists including Au5, Fractal, PIXL, Savoy, Puppet, WRLD, Project 46 and more. Purchase the full album now from iTunes or stream it on SoundCloud or Spotify.

Follow all the artists featured on 025 Threshold and stay in touch with Monstercat as 2016 will only be better than 2015. Stay up to date with the latest electronic music news and events on Only The Beat and happy listening!

Alex Zimmerman

Music has always been a passion of mine, being the kid trying to find the latest music to listen to. In college, I was exposed to Emalkay's "When I Look At You" and EDM quickly became my favorite genre. I hope to show people through writing what EDM has done to me and hope I can help people discover the beauty that is EDM.
