Damn the Dutch know how to party!Just a 30 min boat ride from Central Amsterdam, on the first Saturday in August, Dance Valley hosted Dutch headliners Ferry Cortsen, Afrojack , and Laidback Luke, as well as Axwell, ATB, Aly & Fila, Robbie Riviera, Pendulum, and Borgore. I don't know if it's the music, the people or the city- probably all of the above- but this event was truly something special. We met a group of guys from Mexico City who have made the 10+ hour flight every year for the last 3 years to come to Dance Valley because they love it so much. It's apparent that electronic music is in the Dutch's blood. Despite the older crowd, mid 30s to early 40s avg, the energy was incredible and there was plenty of Dutch Hospitality to go around.
The festival was laid out well, and there was plenty of preparation that had gone into keeping the crowds out of the mud if the rains came. With high production value, stage performers, and a vibing crowd, I definitely consider it a great reason to plan a weekend to the amazing city of Amsterdam. It's too bad Dance Valley wasn't longer!
The last weekend of August, also outside Amsterdam, is the oldest running music festival in Holland, Mysteryland. More than one group of Dutch locals we met were adamant about meeting us again at the end of the month for it. I highly recommend anyone traveling in Europe this summer to stop by Amsterdam and check it out. With a stacked lineup and whats sure to be an awesome crowd, you'll fall in love with Amsterdam and especially the Dutch!
