The Do LaB Presents: Coachella 2014 Artist Line up
I remember the exact moment I entered into the Do LaB’s domain. It was my first year attending Coachella, and I was anxious to find out what unknown adventures the weekend had in store. Those who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who actually do – If the Do LaB had a mantra, this should be it. Their goal is a seemingly simple one, create experience as an art form and through this, the Do LaB has successfully used their creativity to bring art to the masses.
The Do LaB is a Los Angeles based company specializing in interactive environments, event production and creative lighting design all in service of its highest mission. Taking an organic approach to everything they design and create, the Do LaB team strives to bring their visions to life with natural materials, found objects and sustainable resources. Whether producing an event or music festival or building an installation for touring around the world, the Do LaB is committed to the highest levels of art, production, and aesthetic to always challenge people’s preconceived notions of reality and what is possible.
This past week the Do LaB announced their artist line up for Coachella 2014. Featuring all extremely talented artists from around the globe, the Do LaB stage will be getting down from morning to night Friday through Sunday. Over the past 3 years I have attended Coachella, I have found that I am drawn to the Do laB stage, as if it’s a literal human magnet. I have missed out on countless big name artists’ time slots because I literally cannot leave the inner circle of pounding bass music, positive vibes, freaky dancing, and all around friendly sexy aura the stage projects – it is my personal oasis on the polo fields.
Anyone who has attended Coachella in the past can identify with the “Do LaB Experience” I am describing. Strategically located in the center of basically the entire venue, the Do LaB acts as an attendees’ safe haven to anyone and everyone who needs a break from the other Coachella stages. During the day, they spray mega misters into the crowd, thus it’s the best place to cool down and lounge when the heat starts to get to you. At the Do LaB stage, it doesn’t matter what time it is, the music NEVER stops playing, and the crowd grows larger and larger as people start to discover the excitement of great music, passionate artists, and an energetic vibe that is simply indescribable.
By giving the crowds an intimate place where they can always go find fun dancing, and high energy, the festival experience is enhanced for thousands of people. At the Do LaB stage, you will find all types of people with different interests, and musical tastes, everyone is welcome, and everyone is having the greatest time. In my mind, it is the place to be. If you are still not picturing the kind of environment I am trying to depict, check out this vine I took on stage at the Do LaB (and if you’re wondering, the answer is yes, they just let me come on stage).
What I Am Looking Forward to at The Do LaB Stage:
PERFORMANCE WISE: The Lucent Dossier Experience – This performance can be best described as, “Imagine if Cirque du Soleil embraced an underworld where abundant sex, drugs, and rock n’ roll reigned”. LA Times describes it as a, “high-concept circus that feels like a musical set against some sort of post-apocalyptic wasteland with Bjork-esque vocalists weave wordless riffs through on stage vignettes that feature aerial artists, dancers, and fire-eating punk rock looking aliens.” If you’re going to Coachella this is a performance you MUST see!
ARTIST WISE: Diamond Saints, Jupit3r, Kill Paris, Kraddy, LowRIDERZ, Minnesota vs G Jones, Paul Basic, Sound Remedy, SuperVision, and Two Fresh – Check out my mix below with all my favorite tracks from these artists. (See Set List Below)
Overall The Do LaB has a multitude of strengths that result in their success as an interactive events company. Through their productions, the Do LaB has managed to facilitate the employment of hundreds of artist locally and internationally. They construct one of a kind creative event structures that strive for both fun and function. Providing a useable space and visual beacon that makes any event memorable, they create a unique experience for audiences and artist alike. They do not limit their skills to only their company, through collaboration; they outsource their abilities to other Festivals, and foundations. Their biggest strength is that they are community oriented and consciously try to make a positive change in society.
The Do LaB creates value by cultivating an experience that transcends the boundaries of art, music, and performance. They have created a community of like-minded people who connect on a deeper level because of their events and productions. If you have ever attended one of their events you have witnessed that the Do LaB’s main endeavor is to create a multi-faceted encounter where attendees not only have a magical experience, but also find a way to connect with others as well as themselves. If you are going to Coachella this year, please do yourself a favor and visit the Do LaB more than once, and be prepared to be captured by its epicness. – Happy listening my friends.
