Are you a seasoned vet or newcomer to the scene? Either way one does not simply miss the legend that is Paul Van Dyk.

This will be PVD’s third appearance at Foundation Nightclub and I couldn’t be more excited, he’s just that damn amazing.

Street Cred

German producer and DJ, Paul Van Dyk, is a grammy nominated artist, has sold over 3.5 million albums worldwide, and was voted the number one DJ in the world twice by DJ Mag. Paul Van Dyk was one of the first electronic artists I ever heard back in my teenage years and and consequently fell in love with. He’s been making music since 1994 and I can almost guarantee that most of you have heard one of his first tracks, the renowned classic “For An Angel.”

Staying Power

What astounds me about PVD is not only is he one of the godfathers of trance and electronic dance music in general, but he’s continued to produce high quality and exciting productions for over twenty years. He’s managed to stay musically relevant in an ever evolving industry. When I close my eyes and think about what I love most about his productions have to be the melodies. His music is so rich with emotion, thought and creativity.

PVD’s name also has a notorious habit of being mentioned when I ask DJs/producers who inspired them to make EDM – ranging from Aly & Fila, Arctic Moon, ilan Bluestone and more. Pretty damn powerful.

His DJ Set-Up Is Ridiculous

Paul Van Dyk brings the most contagious energy to his live performances as well. I can personally testify after seeing him twice that he still genuinely enjoys what he does after all this time. While I’m not sure on the specifics, I think his DJ set up has two 25 key midi keyboards  in addition to CDJs to mix tracks (and maybe some other mixers too?). His set up allows him to use Ableton as a DJ platform as well as a DAW.

Turn It Up

To get familiar with some of Paul Van Dyk’s classics I recommend listening to Crush, We Are Alive and Time of Our Lives. More recently I’ve been obsessed with his latest album Evolution featuring The Ocean, I Don’t Deserve You, Symmetries and countless more. Paul Van Dyk also has his own radio show called VONYC sessions which is available on his soundcloud.

He recently played at Ultra Music Festival in Buenos Aires, take a listen to his set below!

See what’s in store for him this year in Miami…

The Ocean

Paul Van Dyk closed out A State of Trance 600’s celebration in Miami and it’s one of my favorite sets of his to date.
