White Wonderland: Ringing In 2015
Bringing in the New Year is always something individuals meticulously plan and look forward to. Usually, I bring in the New Year with my parents and their friends, which means they can never make it to midnight… but this year, I had the privilege to take a journey to a place of pure bliss, White Wonderland. This trance heaven experience, hosted by Insomniac Events, was nothing less than expected; from the costumes, to the ambiance, all the way to the headliners, Insomniac Events yet again delivered.
Held at the Anaheim convention center (across from Disneyland), White Wonderland was a field of individuals parading in white attire. Having a strict dress code where every individual dressed in all white augmented to the vibe of the event, and added to the overall aesthetics.
Since every individual was wearing white, the lighting that beamed colors ranging from purples, to blues, to pinks, bounced off the clothing and various disco balls creating an image of serenity.
In addition, hanging from the roofs were snowflakes and aerial performers adding to the mysticism of the winter bliss.
Insomniac had many events happening for New Years, so there were many options to choose from; however, the lineup for White Wonderland was very deep house and trance based, which appealed to a much different crowd of mature ravers.
Performers of the night were W&W, Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano, Showtek, Laidback Luke, and Armin Van Buuren. There was one main stage in which the performers took turns, one after the other. Unlike my experiences at other festivals, I did not have to bounce around, and I could just stand in pure amazement as the DJs laid down tracks.
Artists like W&W, Showtek, and Laidback Luke had sets similar to the ones played at Escape All Hallows Eve, so for me, I was really not too blown away; however, the highlight of my night was Armin’s performance.
With the upcoming release of his new album, “Intense”, Armin, in conjunction to his new material, meticulously wove in some old school trance rhythms and melodies that literally took the crowd into a trance paradise.
Out of my 23 years of existence, this was the best New Years I’ve ever had. The ease of the venue entrance, to the atmosphere, to the music, all the way to the people, was perfect; with that said, White Wonderland was an overall positive event. I loved the fact that this event was intended for individuals over 21, because it is nice to bring in the year with a more mature group of individuals. It is great that most raves are for 18+, but being 23, sometimes I want to be around a more mature environment.
I have to admit, I am an INSOMNIAC. I love Insomniac Events; every event they put on leads me into a world of the unthinkable. I cannot wait to attend Crush in SoCal for Valentines Day, as well as camp at Beyond Wonderland (Check out my camping experience at Nocturnal), and of course EDCLV.
