This festival may be a little less than 8 months away but Backwoods Music Festival is jumping ahead of the game by releasing its Phase 1 lineup. With Big Gigantic and Nahko and Medicine for the People slated to headline, we can all ponder who the other 2 headliners will be as we drool over the Phase 1 lineup below.
Backwoods is bringing an eclectic group to Stroud, Oklahoma this year bringing together artists poised to make a splash in 2016. Haywyre, Illenium and Prince Fox have caught the eye of many blogs as names to watch out for in 2016 and Backwoods has gathered them all in one event. Add to that Audien, Tritonal and Goldfish and most people would be set, yet Backwoods is just getting started.
Liquid Stranger, Manic Focus, Solstis and Tyrannosaurus Chicken will be back for a second year, while countless smaller artists will be catapulting their careers over the Labor Day weekend. I’m most interested in checking out Chill Harris (formerly Kill Paris) after his name change along with Chet Porter, a relative new sound to my ears, but one that I feel is on the verge of something big.
Zeus Nightlife (the company hosting the event) will also be bringing along with them their group of artists including Morgan Ganem, PhuturePhil, Meridian Lights, Lusid and of course Solstis which I mentioned earlier.
Unlike many festivals, Backwoods has been very transparent with the upgrades they will be implementing in 2016. Check out the full list here but here's a quick run-down of the major changes:
New security company (this was quickly changed after the issues of 2015)
Adding shade structures
Better road infrastructure to reduce dust
Better VIP experience
Double the vendors
DJ booth at the "Beach"
Adding a 3rd level to the Treehouse
New Motherland design
Although the ticket prices have increased from last year, they still are much less than many of the other camping festivals around. GA is currently $199 with camping and VIP is $299 with camping. They do have other options including an Ultimate VIP ($499) and a Glamping option ($1,600.) After attending the event last year, I can firmly say that this event is definitely becoming a premiere festival for the Midwest/South, an area that is left scrambling after Wakarusa announced it would be closing its gates in 2016.
Get your tickets now for what is sure to be an awesome Labor Day weekend!
