Summer Festival Spotlight: What The Festival?! 2014
The Pacific Northwest electronic music festival culture has truly exploded in the last couple of years. With this new surge in popularity comes new gatherings of the best sort of people in the best sort of places. What The Festival?! is no exception. Nestled in the remote Wolf Run Ranch in Dufur, Oregon, this festival is a little known treasure in which West Coast Bass culture and urban, eco-conscious hippies coexist in harmony. There are six unique stages, including a 21+ OMG lounge serving cocktails, and a Silent Frisco stage, in which people wear headphones and all jam out collectively in silence under the disco ball for a bit every evening.
One of the coolest elements of the festival is the Splash stage, which, as you may have guessed, is a stage featuring a giant wading pool for people to splash around in, reminiscent of pool party club, Ushuaia, located in Ibiza. One of the weekends’ events that I am most looking forward to is the Dirtybird pool party with Claude VonStroke, J. Phlip, Christian Martin, and Ardalan.
There are many other ways to rejuvenate your body and mind during the day, including movement classes that feature yoga, break-dancing, and hula hooping just to name a few. What The Festival?! is truly an all-encompassing experience, but let’s talk about the most important part of the festival: the lineup. WTF boasts an impressive lineup, especially considering that it runs the same weekend as EDC Las Vegas. From headliners such as The Glitch Mob and Washed Out, to the legendary MK, to West coast locals such as Sidestep, and everybody’s most-loved newcomer Kygo, this lineup does not disappoint. Trap, funk, dubstep… there’s something for everyone to enjoy at What The Festival?! Here are some of the artists on my must-see list:
Hope to see you there!
