Andrew Blanchard, who produces under the name Jumbii, is a fixture in the Dallas music scene. For the past 3 years he has been producing his own take on glitch-hop, and is currently curating a weekly glitch-hop show with fellow Dallas DJ, Mikey Rodge. The pair host the Future Funk Lounge every Tuesday in downtown at Sundown at Granada, bringing out the Dallas Family in force.
Jumbii released his first EP Beloved
at the beginning of the year, and it is available for free via Soundcloud
. The first track off the album is one of my favorites, and has a deep, planetary feel. "Never Not Now" is the debut single of Jumbii and renowned pianist Michael Palma. You will be whisked off to far away galaxies, your mind allowed to wander the vast expanse of liquid bass and enigmatic melodies. Blanchard says the track "symbolises the need to be present in the moment," and I can attest to being lost in its mystery.
Jumbii - "Never Not Now"
Jumbii is poised to make waves with his music well beyond the Dallas city limits. Besides Future Funk Lounge, Jumbii has also played at festivals like Lights All Night, which featured headliners as big as Deadmau5
. It's obvious Blanchard puts so much soul into his music, and makes it easy to see why the Dallas Family loves him so much. You can keep up with Jumbii, as well as download tracks for free via Facebook
