Chet Porter Gives Ember Island’s Cover of “Where Are U Now” An Electronic Makeover

For many producers, independent labels and music collectives have been a way for talented musicians to team up to deliver their music to the masses. Collectives like WEDIDIT and Moving Castle have forged the path for many talented musicians like RL Grime, Jai Wolf, and Chet Porter. Hailing from Toronto, Chet Porter has made a name for himself with vibe-infused remixes of Ryan Hemsworth, Porter Robinson, and Zedd, and now, he’s taken on Ember Island’s re-imagination of Jack U’s hit, “Where Are U Now.”

Porter’s flip shares almost no similarities with Skrillex and Diplo’s version, other than the name and the lyrics. With Ember Island as the vocalist, rather than pop sensation, Justin Bieber, Porter crafts beautiful soundscapes around her emotive croons. Glitchy synth melodies and ambient chord progressions come together with Ember Island’s croons to give Porter’s rendition of “Where Are U Now” an atmospheric feel. It’s up as a free download, so get it here.
