Every now and then it’s worth reminding ourselves that - when done properly - it’s hard to get away from the fact that pop can be just as influential and as expertly produced as say, a deep house gem. Say hello then, to the work of Vesta, a young British producer whose sound veers towards house but also incorporates other sound facets into the agenda. A true bastion of eclecticism, the producer makes the sort of refined tackle that some of his better known contemporaries could only dream of.
We’re judging this on the basis of the brilliant ‘Neon Heart’, a track that arrived on our doorstep recently thanks to its release on the Flak Records imprint; itself a stronghold for clued-in beats. Anyway, the track really is one that’ll lead you to a whole new destination, and one that’s filled with warm, stuffy vibes aplenty. Energetic throughout, it still maintains a welcome human touch thanks to the ubiquitous female vocal that helps it reach another dimension still. An engaging and carefree track, it’s unlike anything I’ve encountered this side of 2015 yet. Hats off here to the man they call Vesta on a job very well done indeed.
