Review: Atove and Markomas – Cold Minds

Atove and Markomas

The always excellent Roush label hits release number 21 with a barn stormer of an EP that comes from Italian pair Atove and Markomas. As well as their two great originals, a remix comes from Mirco Viloi and in doing so completes a stellar package that is sure to do plenty of damage on dance floors.

Opening up things is the excellent Simila Minds, which is a thumping, heavyweight house track with raw kick drums. Some dark vocals add a sense of tension to the cut, but this one is all about the physicalness of the kicks, really. Some soulful pads and raved-up piano stabs add all important colour and are sure to make it stand out even more. Cold Garage is the other original and is a more stripped back, cool garage cut with bouncy drums, icy hi hats and tons of funk in its bones. Some ripping acid also coms in later on to really send people wild. The remix from Mirco Viloi is of Simila Minds and is a rich, fulsome deep house cut with rattling perc and plenty of the originals rave stabs so as to really wake up the floor. Overall, a killer package!

Atove & Markomas’s ‘Cold Minds’ is out now on Roush and available for purchase here.
