Melbourne Bounce is a genre that has absolutely swept the nation in the past year, and an incredible group of DJs and producers came along with it. Deorro
, Timmy Trumpet
, Will Sparks
and many more Aussies who have climbed the OZ dance charts finally took their tours on the road to the States, and Americans couldn't get enough of Bounce. Last summer, I was lucky enough see and chat with Will Sparks
during his US tour, and he made it a point that Joel Fletcher
is another Australian bounce DJ who should not be missed. Sparks attributes a lot of his success to Fletcher, and the two are buddies on and off of the decks
Upon hearing that Joel would be taking the stage at Seattle's Foundation Nightclub
(the same place where I saw Sparks), I was stoked to get the opportunity to chat with him. Fletcher is born and raised in Australia, and it shows. He's an incredibly friendly guy with a laidback vibe, but can go from 0 to 10 when he slays it on the decks, and his show at Foundation was no exception.
Starting to DJ at the young age of 14, Joel had landed himself into inthemix Australia's Top 50 Awards by 2011, and has been at the top of the Australian dance charts ever since. In 2013, his remix of rapper Savage's tune "Swing" went viral, earning new fans all around the globe. His latest tracks, like the hit "Queef" with fellow bounce producer and US-born Deorro, have been at the top of the charts.
Take a look at our interview with Fletcher before his set at Foundation - anyone who's a fan of Ja'mie, is a fan of mine.
