Life sometimes comes with unforeseen twists. It's definitely the case for DJ/remixer/producer JASON JENINGS from Toronto, Ontario. Originally a dance music promoter and DJ, Jason's events grew so popular authorities ultimately banned him from promoting. A successful career change and unfortunate accident later, it took years to make a definitive comeback. But he did. And his brand new single is already heavily supported, including by HAKKASAN resident FERGIE who loves Jening's big room house banger 'CHAOS'. For the occasion, 'Chaos' was remixed by EDM mastermind and Hammarica favorite BASSROCK. The remix takes the track to what can be best described as a futuristic acid experience. Jason takes time out from the studio to chat with Only The Beat. OTB: Let’s give the people some sort of background info on you so we’ll start with some basic stuff. Where are you based and how long have you been DJing and producing? Jason: I'm based out of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I've been DJing since 1999. That's when I started hosting & promoting EDM Events, under my then company "Abstract Productions". In the Fall of 2013, I took an audio engineering & remixing course. From there I've been in the studio addicted to making tracks! OTB: What was your first and last DJ gig? Jason: My first DJ gig was for one of my own Events, in Owen Sound, Ontario. I leased out the top floor of a local bar & threw the first EDM party that the town had ever heard. People went nuts hearing the music & the venue was packed to capacity. Great memorable night. My last DJ gig was headlining the Canada Day Celebrations, at Sauble Beach, Ontario. The stage was set up right on the beach, just steps away from Lake Huron. I went on right after the fireworks. It was a huge crowd and we all had a blast. OTB: What was the first and last record you purchased? Jason: The first track I ever purchased was on a vinyl record, of course. It was Armin van Buuren's, "Communication". Loved that track. Still got that one in my old vinyl collection. The last track I've purchased recently would be Starkillers: "Silence". Great tune. OTB:Tell us something about yourself that might surprise people? Jason: It might surprise people to know that despite how public, outgoing & out there I am with social media & promoting myself & my music, I'm the exact opposite when it comes to my personal life. My career side is loud & public, but my personal side is quiet & private. OTB: Who are some of the best undiscovered talents in your eyes? Jason: There is a huge amount of undiscovered DJ talent on both of the stations that I have residencies with. (New York) has an absolutely amazing crew. Everyone and every show rocks the house. (Venezuela) is the exact same and is loaded with talented people, with incredible energy & skills. OTB: Which producers consistently inspire you? Jason: There's a ton of producers that consistently inspire me. Lately I'm really loving: TJR, Hardwell, Tom Staar, Firebeatz, Lush & Simon. They are consistent & forward-thinking trendsetters. OTB: What artist or track would you love to remix? and who would you love to be remixed by? Jason: I'd love to remix Bloc Party's track: "Flux". It would be an honour to have Tommy  Trash remix one of my tracks. Having the opportunity to work with him would be amazing. OTB: Record labels are a dime a dozen these days and the majority of people feel most of them are mediocre music factories. Which ones if any standout for you? Jason: The record labels that stand out to me would be: Spinnin' Records and Revealed Recordings. I would love the opportunity to work with them. OTB: Tell us about your residency on How did that come about? Jason: I'm so grateful to be a part of the family. It all began when DJ Dave Howe contacted me and told me that he had heard my track: "Chaos". He loved it and asked if he could feature it on his show. I tuned in for his show, logged into the chat & met the other Party103 DJ's, as well as the Co-CEO, Charlie Rock. I was immediately impressed with the positive energy & support that everyone had for each other. I knew right away that it was something that I wanted to be a part of. Charlie Rock was gracious enough to give me a residency and my own bi-weekly show, every other Wednesday from 4pm to 5pm. I now also have my own Exclusive Streaming Channel on Party103 and I am so excited to be a part of the team. Shortly after this connection, I met DJ Mike Raymond, from (Venezuela). They offered me a Guest Mix on their station. The show instantly got amazing response and before it was over, they offered me a residency and my own weekly show. It is every Monday from 8:30pm to 9:30pm. OTB: If you knew your next live gig was going to be your last, what track do you want people to remember you by? Jason: I play every live gig, as if it were my last. Instead of remembering me by a track, I hope everyone walks away from my shows remembering the amazing energy, vibe & emotion that my set made them feel. CONNECT:
