With his 'Next Guest' EP dropping on Hive Audio earlier this week the hype around Mirco Caruso has only exploded further. We caught up the Swiss artist to see how he will follow up this impressive release and also a how he became the artist he is today.
OTB: Tell us a bit about your history, how long has it been until the point where you are releasing tracks on such substantial names as Hive Audio?
Mirco Caruso: It takes a lot of discipline and patience. I have focused the last 3 years mainly on producing and spending a lot of time in the studio. The most important thing is to make it step by step and not to be disappointed if, at the beginning, not everything works out the way you want it to.
OTB: Where would you say your greatest influence has come from and how has it helped create the sound that we hear today?
Mirco Caruso: I’m inspired by a lot of things. But most importantly, I have been inspired by my gigs and listening to a lot of different styles of music. It changes everyday because you are surrounded by different people and stuff all the time.
OTB: How did you first become involved with the Hive family and what is it about your music that makes it so well suited to this imprint?
Mirco Caruso: It was in February this year when i joined my Booking-Agency "MITA". They have been working with Hive Audio for a long time and so they received some of my unreleased tracks and things took their course.
OTB: What did you set out to achieve with Next Guest and how do the two tracks vary from one another?
Mirco Caruso: I'm really excited to see what kind of numbers it does and to see where the song reaches as far as crossing genres and different types of DJ’s. Pete Tong played Let Me Go in his BBC Radio 1 Show, so I would say the EP started very well.
Next Guest is more "balearic" than Let Me Go, both have totally different elements inside.
OTB: How long did you spend on this EP and what did you find is the hardest part to complete?
Mirco Caruso: I did not count the hours, but more or less a weekend as I had no gigs. The most difficult were as always the details, but I’m really happy with the final result.
OTB: What piece of equipment in the studio would you say most defines you as an artist and why?
Mirco Caruso: I could lie to you just to look cool, but to be honest all I have is a computer, Cubase, headphones & sounds . I think the most important thing are the ideas and knowing how to implement them.
OTB: So can we expect to hear your sound some more on the Hive Audio label?
Mirco Caruso: Of course, the second EP is signed and will be released next year.
OTB: Who would be your dream collaboration and why?
Mirco Caruso: There are so much great producers, difficult to choose one.
OTB: Where would you like to see yourself this time next year?
Mirco Caruso: Making Music around the globe!
