Only The Beat: Can you tell us a little about yourself? How did you get into producing/DJing?
Throttle: I started as a house party DJ when I was 13 playing just for friends and then I got interested in making all the music that I was playing. About a year later, I started the Throttle brand to get some stuff online and brand my music in a unique way.
OTB: On your Facebook page, the genre of music is listed as ''Dirty Disco''. Can you tell me what this genre includes and anything about this unique style?
Throttle: It started out as the name of my mix series. I was planning on doing a weekly or a monthly mix and I got episode two. The broad name incorporates everything that I want to do with Disco, EDM and Hip-Hop and blending everything together. It really describes my sound. The word ''dirty'' comes from the dirty Electro songs that I originally started making when I was 13 and now my style has evolved to more Disco and House.
OTB: Earlier this year you released the hit ''Waiting'' with Oliver Heldens. You have done a bunch of great remixes, produced original tracks and even appeared on the legendary Pete Tong's Radio Show for a guest mix. What has been the personal highlight of your music career so far?
Throttle: Definitely the remix of Earth, Wind, and Fire because I am such a big Disco fan. I made this remix during my high school exams just to get away from everything and a couple months later it came out on Ultra.
OTB: Do you have any mentors in the industry? What genres of music do you personally listen to and what artists do you follow?
Throttle: Oliver Heldens is my biggest mentor and has really helped me out a lot especially in the past year. We chat at least once a week and he has given me a lot of advice on managing the rise to fame and how to prepare for that if it happens. I mainly listen to Disco music and really don't listen to a lot of EDM. I always get razzed by my booking agent because he says he booked this guy and that guy, but I have no idea who he is talking about. I know all of the 70's music and really am a big fan of Earth, Wind & Fire and Kool and the Gang.
OTB: You are on your first U.S. Tour. Can you tell us what this experience is like? What city or venue has been your favorite so far?
Throttle: Probably Denver, but I have a feeling that tonight is going to top it. Everyone is saying that Echostage is one of the best places to play the in the world. We have actually only lived on the bus for a day so it is a new experience and driving on the road makes it tough to sleep.
OTB: You are from Melbourne, what is the dance music scene like in Melbourne? What venue or festival do you recommend in Australia?
Throttle: I am really not in touch with the Melbourne Bounce scene, which was really popular for a few years. I don't really go clubbing unless I am with my friends and we go to the Rnb Room and listen to artists like Flo Rida or Fatman Scoop. There are a lot of musical styles in Melbourne. I stick to more of the Indie festivals or a local venue around the corner to listen to live music.
OTB: In May you will be playing your first U.S. festival at EDC New York. Are you excited for this opportunity and are you planning anything special for this performance?
Throttle: Yes, I am very excited. I will be bringing out my guitar for this set and playing and DJing. I really don't know what to expect, I have only been to a few Australia festivals and everyone that I talk to says everything overseas is just massive.
OTB: What do you like to do outside of producing music and DJing?
Throttle: I do normal stuff. I listen to music a lot even when I am not producing anything. Hanging out with friends is really important for me. I like to listen to music with friends and this helps me because you pick up little things that you wouldn't think of by yourself. Exercising too.
OTB: We are in the nation's capital and I have to ask the question. Your song ''Together'' is currently being used by Hillary Clinton's campaign. How do you feel about that? Have you met the presidential candidate?
Throttle: We have not met yet, but that's the goal. It really hasn't sunk in yet that the potential next president of USA is using my song. The hate online is so funny though, people telling me your a ''traitor''. I posted a picture today outside of the White House with a caption like ''Yo Hilary it's me, I'm outside'' and instantly people were commenting that she isn't the President. People just need to chill out and not be so serious. We actually invited Hillary Clinton here tonight, but we didn't hear back.
OTB: That is a shame, it would have been great to do back-to-back interviews with Hilary Clinton and Throttle. What can we expect this year from you? Any new tracks, collaborations, tours?
Throttle: I am doing an Australia tour in April. Full tour of the U.S. in May and June, which will be my first solo tour. I am working on a few remixes and just finished an original. I was in L.A. a few weeks ago working with top producers on a lot of new singles. I am working on a project with Niko the Kid.
