Mixed Beets Vol. 5
This week’s Mixed Beets features a remix from Fred Falke, music from Kraak & Smaak, some music from Japan, and a new remix of a track off of Tycho’s most recent album, Awake.
1. Kraak & Smaak- Don’t Let People (Moods Remix)
Moods makes a fantastic slowed down, deeper remix of Kraak & Smaak’s Don’t Let People. Kraak & Smaak are proving to be my favorite Dutch act.
2. Blamma! Blamma! feat. Kristina Train – Zsa Zsa (Original Mix)
This next deep disco track makes is an excellent combination of piano and and melodic vocals with an infectious snare drum that rolls in towards the middle of the track.
3. The Whitest Boy Alive – Golden Cage (Fred Falke Remix)
The Whitest Boy Alive announced their break up earlier this year. Which is such a shames as their two albums Dreams and Rules were in my rotation for some time. Both are great albums worth checking out. Fred Falke has a knack for stellar remixes and he doesn’t fall short on Golden Cage, definitely one of my favorite crossover remixes.
4. Soul Bells & マクロスMACROSS 82-99 – Groove City/溝都市
I honestly don’t remember how I came across this track but, I am glad I did. I found them on Soundcloud they are apparently a Japanese group or record label not really sure. I am not well versed in the Japanese language so if someone can check out the page and help me that would be great. Regardless, enjoy this future funk/disco and please check out there SoundCloud page.
5. Alexander Shofler & The Supertraxxe – Smile
We featured Supertraxxe last year in the release of their EP. They return with a funky electro track, “Smile”
6. No Rush and Jay Antonym – Feel That Way
The Colombian DJ/Producers NO RUSH, alongside Jay Antonym, will make you dance and “Feel That Way”. Check out the EP with stellar remixes here. Colombia has a great Deep/Tech House scene that is definitely worth checking out.
7. Evgueny Jevaguine – Holographic Dream
Panda Bear, AKA Noah Lennox, the founding member of Animal Collective, released a mixtape last week via a super trippy site and that is where I found this track. The Kzakh has some pretty good Progressive House and Trance tracks on his page
8. Thundercat – Heartbreaks + Setbacks
Thundercat has a very close relationship with Flying Lotus and their music styles are fairly similar. This was the most popular track off Thundercat’s album last year which as also one of the best releases of 2013.
9. Tycho – See (Beacon Remix)
Tycho’s album, Awake, has been one of my favorties of the year thus far. This beautiful remix by Beacon doesn’t stray far from the smooth, soothing melodies produced by Tycho.
10. Electric Feel – Henry Green (shagabond edit)
This last drifting track is a an edit of MGMT’s Electric Feel. The slow, dreamy rendition of one of the most popular tracks of the century was only a fitting way to end the mix
