If you are looking for music that is unique and very original, will send chills down your spine, and will occasionally crush you will bass, then Koan Sound may be to your liking. The British duo has been around for a while with multiple EPs and singles under their belt, and now they are back with a brand new EP, Dynasty, as well as a tour with Minnesota kicking off at the end of April. Koan’s style has changed over the past few releases. Their older music is quite funky and involves a lot of bass, such as the Funk Blaster EP or Adventures of Mr Fox, but recently Koan has been moving toward a more melodic style while keeping their funk feel very much alive. Listening through the preview for Dynasty, I was extremely impressed by the way their music has progressed and could not be more excited for its release on April 1st. This shift in style has a lot to do with their collaboration with Asa on their last EP. Sanctuary is a big step away from their original style, but that is in no way a bad thing at all. It is beautiful to listen through and really is something quite different from other styles of electronic music. The musicality of these two is just stunning, and to add to everything Koan Sound puts on a fantastic show. I was fortunate enough to see them at Freaknight in Seattle this past year and was very impressed and pleased by their set. Naturally then I am quite excited to see them again in May at Foundation Nightclub, and would recommend to everyone to see them if they come to a venue near you.
