Gareth Emery & Ashley Wallbridge: DUI
Another year is almost at it’s end, so it’s only fitting that two of the biggest names in Trance and Progressive, Gareth Emery and Ashley Wallbridge, have combined forces to release a follow up to their massive 2011 track ‘Mansion.’ Released on Gareth Emery’s Label Garuda, their new single is called DUI and although I could make a few good guesses about how the track got its name, I’d be curious to know what Gareth and Ashley have to say about that. (we will get this answer for you!)
If you haven’t, take a minute to listen their first collaboration, Mansion, and refresh your memory. Might as well include this since it’s a banger of it’s own. But I also wanted to include Mansion to point out a few things about Gareth and Ashley’s collaboration style, the first of which being that both tracks are instrumentals. Sounds like the guys have decided to shy away from vocals in order to make room for the massive melodies they’ve concocted.
Now apparently the guys recorded this short little video from Ashley’s home at the moment they finally figured out the Melody for their new track DUI…It’s 3am, Gareth’s been toiling away at the keyboard for hours, but he just can’t seem to nail down the second part of it. Enter Ashley Wallbridge to the rescue! “Let me have a go” he says….and the rest is history.

Groovy, lots of reverb, and a solid melody. Sounds like the recipe for a progressive house banger. Writing about it is one thing, but actually sitting down and producing a song of this caliber is another. I think by keeping this track an instrumental they are making way for a lot of remixes, mashups, and of course easy live mixing. DUI isn’t even released yet and I’m already starting to fantasize about who might be remixing the track. Either way, I’m sure we’ll be hearing a lot of DUI over the next few months and it will be a staple in Gareth’s sets leading up to Ultra Music Festival.
Check out the new track below and let us know what you think in the comment section at the bottom! Happy December!
