A Trap Throwback – GTA – The Crowd (Ookay Remix)
Taking it back just about two years ago, the original version of this banger was released. If you keep up with electronic music regularly, you probably and hopefully have heard this song a few times. If you haven’t heard of GTA, you may have heard this song thrown down during Afrojack, Diplo or Laidback Luke’s sets, its pretty much a classic.
GTA is a Miami based production duo who constantly cranks out some sick Electro House. The duo is made up of Matthew Van Toth (Van Toth) and Julio Mejia (JWLS). When the two came together they had two very different sounds, Van Toth was into the house scene, where as JWLS was heavily influenced by Hip Hop. They decided that if they came together they could create their own niche in the Electronic Dance Music scene. They were definitely right. Their sound has changed over the years. Some of their tracks fit into the trap genre while others are obviously more house. On Soundcloud the duo tags all of their songs #deathtogenres, subtly commenting to the fact that a lot of EDM is all meshing into one undefinable sound.
GTA – The Crowd (Ookay Remix)
A year after the songs release, trap master, Ookay, took the song and made it even more lit by adding more of a trap and Hardstyle sound. The young artist has labeled himself a “leader” at the forefront of a growing industry. At the beginning of his career in 2013, he collaborated with artists like Borgore, Flosstradomus, RL Grime, and many more. He’s proved that althoguh he is young and fresh to the game, he’s not one to be messed with. Next time you hear that girls voice in the background of a track that says “okay!” remember who’s behind that.
