3lau's first appearance in Austin, TX was an interesting one. But before we dive into that, allow me to introduce you to one of EDM's rising stars. A 21-year-old college Junior in St. Louis, Justin Blau is a Las Vegas Native who really made a name for himself by winning Tiesto's remix competition for 'Work Hard Play Hard'.
With a background in analog instruments like piano and guitar, Justin has always been a musican but caught the itch to start producing EDM after a trip to Sweden in 2011. There really must be something in the water there. But basically, ever since that trip, 3lau has been tearing it up and touring the United states. OTB was able to attend his show in Austin, Texas and we cut a short little video that hopefully gives you an idea of what kind of show this guy can throw, even under less than desirable circumstances.
Now, the reason I started off by mentioning that this show was interesting really has nothing to do with 3lau at all but the opener. It was the first time in my life that I witnessed someone fake an entire DJ set. No need to mention any names, he knows who he is, and I don't even think 3lau was even at the venue yet, but it was literally mind-blowing to watch someone place their laptop on top of a CDJ-2000 and pretend to turn knobs...all before committing the ultimate sin and ending his set with Avicii Levels. Thank God Local super star Andrew Parsons came on after him to save the day and set the mood for 3lau's otherwise energetic and entertaining performance. But hey, I guess there's a first time for everything! I would love to know if any of you have ever seen something like this happen, it was mind-boggling and honestly disrespectful. Let me know in the comment section below.
