A Million Strangers, We Move As One
Electronic dance music culture is what keeps ravers like me hooked. No matter who you are or what you look like you are cordially invited to the party, and everyone will make sure you feel the warm welcome. You won’t be judged if you have blue skin or chose to arrive in the nude but simply on the vibe you’re spreading. Nowhere else will you walk into a room of strangers and feel a sense of unity like you will at an EDM event. We crave the culture that unifies us, it’s what keeps us coming back time and time again.
Our society is filled with preconceived notions, and discrimination. Throughout history we’ve made strides in accepting those who are different then we are, but never the less prejudice still exists. Passionate EDM fans come from all walks of life, and it’s the passion for the music we all share that allows us to accept one another.
Good vibes is the term heard at raves around the world and is what holds this sense of unity together. It is each raver’s unspoken responsibility to practice “good vibes”. This means caring for the stranger next to you. Sharing water and smiles, offering a helping hand, and keeping a PLUR (peace, love, unity, respect) mindset. In doing so these vibes are projected throughout the crowd giving everyone energy and life.
We are millions of strangers moving as one.
It seems crazy that a person could feel so safe and at home surrounded by a crowd of strangers. I’ve yet to find another place that creates this feeling, and I know that other ravers definitely feel the same way. Until then, we will all continue to go to dozens of shows and project good vibes. I hope to see you there!
